The City of Unalaska, Aquatics Center will be closed April 22nd through mid June. We are updating our air handling system, and doing other maintenance to continue making our facilities a desirable place to be. Thank you in advance for your patience, and we will announce our re-opening date as soon as possible. Patrons with personal items in lockers are advised to remove items by Sunday, April 21st. From Knik Construction: At the request of the ADOT and in the interest of public safety, Knik Construction is closing the gun range. The access road is currently unsafe due to mining activities and heavy equipment operations in the area.

We anticipate having work in this area finished and the new airport perimeter fence installed by the end of August. At that time, we will be able to provide safe access and will reopen the gun range.

Getting back into working out? Have questions about how to use fitness equipment? A fitness center orientation is for you. PCR encourages Unalaskans to utilize the department fitness centers at both the Aquatics Center and Community Center. Orientations will show patrons how to stay safe using fitness equipment, review all rules of the facilities, demonstrate how to properly adjust, program, and sanitize equipment, and explain fitness center etiquette. Orientations will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the first Monday of the month.

Young artists get to flex their creative muscles, build upon their skills, and learn new techniques in this nature-enthused course. Participants will meet each Monday all summer at the Community Center and travel by van to a new Inspiring location to work on their projects.
The goal of this class is to create unique and interesting pieces that will be displayed at a gallery viewing at the end of the summer.

Join us on the 71st anniversary of the bombing of Dutch Harbor for a video conference connecting Pearl Harbor to Unalaska. Explore the events surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor with National Park Service Historian Daniel Martinez and a Survivor/Witness to the attack.

This is a great class for kids and teens wanting to learn or build upon their outdoor skills. We will learn
expedition planning, map reading and orienteering,and fire building and cooking.

Baseball is coming to Unalaska! Learn to hit, catch and field at this year's baseball camp. PCR will provide all the necessary equipment, however participants are encouraged to bring any baseball gear they might have. Each grade level will meet everyday during the week. Instructor: Nick Cron

Skateboarding is not only a recreational ac0vity, it is also an art form that takes practice and discipline to master.

Join Andrew Miller as he facilitates the club and helps kids and adults learn how to sharpen their skateboarding
skills. The club will watch videos, review the latest in skateboarding footage, and practice skills leading up to the annual Skate Jam.

Participants should bring their own skateboard, protective gear and water bottles.

The first 10 registered participants will receive a skateboard package which includes materials used for putting together your own skateboard.

Participants must provide their own helmet and pads.

Bring your bike to the Burma Road Chapel and get it all decked out for the big parade! Decorations will be provided but you may also bring your own.

Unalaska’s annual 4th of July Parade will be helping to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Alaska Maritime Highway System (AMHS). Grand prize in this year’s float contest will go to the float that best represents the AMHS. The prize will be a $500.00 passenger travel voucher for the ferry. There will also be awards given out for most original float and most patriotic.

Bring your wastes to the household hazardous waste clean-up event at our City Landfill and Baler Facility on Summer Bay Road. Follow the signs and traffic cones. Specially trained personnel will be on hand to greet you and ask you a few questions which will help them classify the wastes for safe handling and proper disposal. Want to avoid the crowd? The hazardous waste clean up event is busiest from 11:00 am. to 1:00 p.m. To avoid the crowd, plan to come to the event before or after those hours.

These include:
• Explosives such as blasting caps and gun powder.
• Reactives such as sodium metal.
• Biological wastes.
• Radioactive wastes.
• Contaminated soils.
• Asbestos or asbestos-containing materials.

PLEASE BE SURE TO:
• Keep products in their original containers if possible.
• Identify and label any unmarked containers to the best of your knowledge.
• Place any leaking container inside another container.
• Protect containers from tipping over during transport.
• Don’t mix any products.
• Keep products away from passengers during transport.

Drum circles are a wonderful way to have fun, meet new friends, exercise the mind, body,spirit and reduce stress. Join PCR instructor Andrew Miller as we explore working together in
creating music as a community. The drum transcends all boundaries of race, religion, age,gender, or social position. Interactive drumming breaks down barriers of hierarchy, culture,
and language. The drum is the most powerful of the musical instruments.

It is an instrument that lives in every culture around the world in one form or another. Participants should come
with an open and positive attitude as we explore both freestyle drumming and structured hand drum classes. The first 10 registered participants will be provided with djembe hand drums. If you wish to still participate you must provide your own instruments.

Our annual half marathon, a memorial to the late Bobby Johnson, may be ran or biked. The race will challenge participants as they make their way over the pass and around Summer Bay lake. Teams are encouraged to participate. The race will end at Town Park, the location of the last Music in the Parks Series.

Late Registration is $30 and begins on July 27th.

Come and join instructor, Eric Andersen, for our outdoor soccer camp. This week-long soccer camp will have students of all ages learning new skills and participating in plenty of fun games! Participants are strongly encouraged but not required to wear outdoor soccer shoes.

The Heart of the Aleutians (HOA) Festival is expanding to a two-day event this year! Friday August 16th, we will hold the inaugural HOA BBQ Cook-Off. We will also once again host the HOA Kids Tot-Trot and HOA 5K. Saturday, August 17th, the festivities will continue with food and vendor booths, local musical talent, games, inflatables, and prizes for the kids.
