The Unalaska Department of Parks, Culture, and Recreation (PCR) hosted their annual Christmas Event last Saturday, December the 2nd. At the event, community members shopped at the Christmas bazaar, took pictures with Santa, and listened to Christmas stories read by Karen Kresh of the library.
Vendors at the Christmas bazaar included the Senior Parents, Unalaskans against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (USAFV), and the Teen Council. The Senior Parents had a garage sale where parents donated used items. As is the case every year, the Senior Parents are raising money for a party for Unalaska’s graduating seniors. USAFV had a photo booth with Christmas-themed props. They were also getting signatures for a pledge to stop bullying in Unalaska and generally getting the word out to community members about their mission. Teen Council gave out free hot chocolate and candy canes and took orders for “TC Sweets”. “TC Sweets” are baked goods that Teen Council members will be selling to fund raise for their projects benefiting youth in the community.
The event came to a close at around 3 pm. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season!
