Raider Swimmers Headed to Regionals

UCSD

Five new school records and six swimmers having personal best times in their individual events made the trip to Palmer, Alaska a good one for the Unalaska swim team.  The Raiders traveled with eight swimmers to the Palmer Invitational at the Palmer High School Pool October 13th through 15th.  The Invite is thought to be largest high school swim meet and diving competition in the state with over 300 participants from 17 schools.

Each swimmer is allowed to swim in two individual events and two relay events.  Unalaska competed in 15 out of 24 events.  The top 12 finishers in each individual swimming event and top six teams in each relay event earned spots to compete in the Finals on day-two of swimming.  Freshman Adam Nguyen set new school records and finished 4th overall in both the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle (23.56) and Boys 100 Yard Backstroke (58.17).  Freshman Nicholas Upton finished 9th and 12th in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle (24.34) and Boys 100 Yard Freestyle (55.74) events.  Sophomore Amiel Fernandez finished 12th overall in the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly (1:05.11).  And Senior and team Captain, Delanney McConnell, finished 12th overall in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly (1:13.50).
