After ducking jail time for a decade, a Texas man was finally taken into custody last week on an outstanding Unalaska warrant.  

David Barczi was sentenced to 70 days in prison in 2008 after he was found guilty of assaulting a law enforcement officer.

A Superior Court judge has ordered a former city employee to serve two years of probation and pay $7,000 in restitution for stealing cash from Unalaska City Hall.

Matapua Faailoga, 35, originally faced multiple felony charges for siphoning $15,751.94 from the city’s cash receipts while she worked as an accounting assistant in 2016 and 2017.

The state’s case against a former city employee is moving forward, following a criminal investigation that revealed cash has been stolen from Unalaska City Hall.

In her first court appearance on Tuesday, Matapua Natalie Faailoga faced updated charges of theft, fraud, forgery, misapplication of property, and official misconduct.

Police say the former accounting assistant has admitted to siphoning $15,751.94 from the city’s cash receipts over the last year.
