Over fifty Unalaskans gathered last Saturday at 2pm at the Tutiakoff Field to participate in the 2018 Color Run.

This year, Louella Tan of the Youth Alliance for a Healthier Alaska helped organize the run with D Kirchhofer from Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence. The event was also sponsored by the Iliuliuk Family & Health Services, and the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association. Prizes for the event were donated by OptimERA.

Friends and family gathered in the large gym waiting with anticipation as teacher Mr. Kyle Holloway motioned with both arms for the first two seniors to begin the processional. The UCSD band commenced “Pomp and Circumstance” as the rest of the Class of 2018 filed in two-by-two and took seats in front of a backdrop of senior portraits for the 2018 Unalaska City School Graduation Ceremony on May 19th at 7pm.

Thanks to the efforts of City of Unalaska Parks, Culture and Recreation help from the community, the 2018 Clean Up Week was a great success!

Beginning May 1st this year, Unalaskans responded to a call from the PCR to help pick up the trash that had accumulated on the beaches and roadways over the winter. Folks were asked to sign up for a specific area and attendants from the PCR handed out the signature yellow bags to all interested. The PCR kept track of the zones that had been tended to and promptly picked up the bags when the cleaning was done.

Thank you, Unalaska, for making the Channel 8 Auction a big success.

This event is one of our most important fundraisers of the year and a beloved local tradition.  It's a televised event that's been on the air since the 1980s, and it brings together archival clips and a unique home shopping experience.  This year, we auctioned off about 80 items, and we raised over $15,000! All funds will support Arts and Culture programming, as well as our effort to preserve the Channel 8 archives.
