Raider Volleyball Team Finishes Fourth, With Many Awards

  The Unalaska Raiders Volleyball Team competed at the 2017 2A State Championships at Dimond High School in Anchorage last week. Their first game was against the Petersburg Vikings, in which the Raiders fought hard but unfortunately lost with the scores being 13-25, 19-25, and 16-25 which caused the Raiders to drop in the bracket.

Unalaska’s annual Poetry Out Loud competition took place last Tuesday at 6 pm in the high school auditorium. Poetry Out Loud is a nation-wide competition in which students pick a poem, memorize it, and recite it in front of judges and an audience. The competition is based on a student’s thorough and accurate memorization of the poem and their personalized and dynamic recitation.

PCR Hosts Annual Holiday Event

The Unalaska Department of Parks, Culture, and Recreation (PCR) hosted their annual Christmas Event last Saturday, December the 2nd. At the event, community members shopped at the Christmas bazaar, took pictures with Santa, and listened to Christmas stories read by Karen Kresh of the library.

Last Home Game a Big Hit for Raiders Volleyball

The Raider’s Homecoming weekend ended with a triumphant bang! On November 11th and 12th, the Unalaska Raiders hosted their last home game against the Su Valley Rams. Friday night started off with the recognition of the seniors, Jordan Eastman and Captain Louella Tan. The Raiders defeated the Rams within three sets with the scores being: 25-21, 25-18, and 25-20. On Saturday, the intense game ended victoriously for the Unalaska Raiders.

This past weekend, four UCS high school teams, three junior high teams and one "Raider Mix" team of high school boys, girls and coaches competed in the Unalaska Crab Pot volleyball tournament. This 8-team double elimination tournament stretched over two days. The championship match was an exciting battle between the Raider Mix team and the Raider HS Gold team. The HS Gold team emerged victorious after winning the first two sets.
