Local Turkey Trot Raises Funds for Charity

  The annual Turkey Trot: Gobble, Gobble, Run & Wobble for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital has been a tradition for Unalaska. Organized by the Parks, Culture and Recreation, rain, hail, or shine, this fun 5K run has seen many runner, trotters, and walkers. Unlike other runs, the winner is not the first ones to cross the finish line, but those who raised the most donations for St Jude Children’s. 1st place for fundraising went to: Cheyenne Campbell and Bernadette Namasivayam who received a Turkey.

  The last week of October, Resolve Marine and various local agencies in Unalaska welcomed Todd Duke from 1-Call Alaska who led training for the local shipboard emergency response team.

1-Call Alaska is a joint venture between Resolve Marine Group and the National Response Corporation. They operate an alternative planning criteria for vessel response plans under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990: a regulation that was a result of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

The male staff at Unalaska City School is once again sporting an inordinate amount of mustaches. It’s that time of year again, and November has been re-dubbed as MO-vember to support and raise awareness for health issues facing men.

Crab Pot Tourney Preps Raiders for Volleyball Regionals

Four UCS high school teams and four junior high teams competed in the Unalaska Crab Pot volleyball tournament over the weekend. This 8-team double elimination tournament stretched over two days. The championship match was an exciting battle between the boy’s high school team, which was a mix of teachers and students, and the Raider varsity team. The boys emerged victorious after 5 sets.

Raider Swim Season Ends

  The 2015 ASAA Region lll Northern Lights Conference Swimming and Diving Championships was held in Valdez on October 29-30, 2015. Over 200 athletes from Colony, Homer, Kenai Central, Kodiak, Palmer, Seward, Soldotna, Unalaska, Valdez, and Wasilla high schools participated in the meet.
