There was a buffet dinner, dancing, raffles and a silent auction.

Fire Chief Zac Schasteen said the event raised approximately $14,000 for the Unalaska Fire and EMS Department.

Shop With A Cop

On December 17th the Alaska Peace Officer Association- Aleutian Islands Chapter held their annual “Shop with a Cop” event.

Eagle’s View Elementary School selected 4 children to participate this year. The children were picked up at the school by 2 police officers, an Alaska State Trooper and other Public Safety personnel in police cars, and a fire truck. They were then taken to Safeway and Alaska Ship Supply to buy gifts for their family for the holiday season.

Unalaska City School held the  8th annual Poetry Out Loud competition in the high school auditorium Monday, December 14th.  Spearheaded by English teacher Amy Purevsuren, there were over 40 participants this year.

Students took the stage with a memorized poem of their choice and preformed it for an audience of students, staff and families. Their presentations were then assessed by four judges who announced the

winners at the end of the event.

The last week of October, Resolve Marine and various local agencies in Unalaska welcomed Todd Duke from 1-Call Alaska who led training for the local shipboard emergency response team.

1-Call Alaska is a joint venture between Resolve Marine Group and the National Response Corporation. They operate an alternative planning criteria for vessel response plans under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990: a regulation that was a result of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

A display of colorful new sculptures adorns the lobby of the Unalaska's community center. At first glance, they might look like ornately decorated milk jugs and Styrofoam packaging, but take a closer look and you’ll find that the kids in PCR 360 program created a whole bug village after studying about insects in the after school program.
