Republican William Weatherby has earned another chance to challenge Bryce Edgmon, the Democrat who's represented the Aleutian Islands and Bristol Bay in Juneau for the last 12 years.
Weatherby won the Republican nomination for House District 37 on Tuesday, claiming 63 percent of vote to defeat Stan Swetzof in the state's primary election.
That contest was closer in Unalaska's precinct, where Weatherby edged Swetzof by 10 votes.
Swetzof lives in Naknek, but he has strong ties to the Aleutian region. He's from Atka and previously lived in Unalaska, while Weatherby is from Oregon and resides in King Salmon.
Weatherby also won the Republican primary in 2016, when he ran unopposed. He lost to Edgmon in the general election, but he took 40 percent of the vote.
His campaign is focused on increasing Permanent Fund dividends and bringing a new voice to the Legislature.
Meanwhile, Edgmon is running for his seventh term in Juneau. Facing no competition, the Dillingham Democrat won his party's nomination with 100 percent of the vote.
