A central messaging system that serves our community through local productions and a scrolling Community Bulletin Board.  Staff collaborates with volunteers to create about 10 hours of local programming per week.  Our signature weekly show is called Flash! Unalaska and it has been on the air since 1988.  Channel 8 also runs local documentaries, live City Council meetings, archival content, and rebroadcasts of community events and lectures.

Channel 8 Holiday Specials  

There isn’t anything cuter than the Eagle’s View Kindergarten and Preschool Holiday Choir Performance! Check it out on December 21 at 8:00pm following Unalaska this Week.

Travel down memory road with two special holiday themed Channel 8 Rewind episodes! The first episode is all the way back from 1983 and features a variety of musical numbers. The second episode is from December 1988 and includes a kindergarten sing-along, PCR’s Santa Tea and a holiday piano recital. December 22 at 8 PM.

With the aid of teachers Amy Purevsuren and Shawna Rudio, the UCSD hosted the annual Poetry Out Loud competition on Monday, December 5th in the high school auditorium. There were 43 participants this year.

Established by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, this years competition was emceed by Mia Magalong. Magalong introduced the competition by summarizing the events overall purpose.

On Friday, November 18th, the Raiders Volleyball Teams played their first and only home game against Birchwood Christian School from Anchorage.

The Junior High and Junior Varsity teams started off the evening with their final scrimmages of the season to bleachers full of spectators. According to Coach Amber Wood, “Over the course of the season, all players did a tremendous job and made great improvements to their skills and knowledge of the game of volleyball.”  Wood added that she is looking forward to next season so she and the other coaches can continue to watch these young athletes grow.  

Following the JH and JV games, the Raiders Varsity team took the court and honored this years Senior players for their hard work over the years. Afterward, the team proceeded to win three games in a row, securing an overall win against Birchwood.

Saturday evening, the Raiders played just as tough, winning the first three out of a possible five games. It was a great weekend for the Raiders and Coach Wood said, “every team played their very hardest and offered great competitive games.”

Coach Wood credits the terrific season in part to all of the coaches, including Miss Rachel Peter, Mrs. Christie Morris and Mr. Nick Cron. She also wanted to extend a special thank you to the athletes, their parents and the community for their love and support, adding “we really couldn’t do it without you!” 

The Varsity team will be headed to the Regional competition in Soldotna on Tuesday, November 29th. 

Last Friday, the Unalaska Raider Swim Team converged on the newly renovated Aquatics Center for their last home swim meet of the season. It was stormy outside, but a great day for swimming on the inside. They started their warm ups at 5 and the meet began at 6 with introductions by Coach D. This swim meet was senior night, so after all of the other swimmers had their names called, it was time for the seniors to make their entrance.

The annual Blueberry Bash was Sunday, September 25th in the UCSD small gym. This year the event was hosted by Jolene Longo and was a fundraiser for the UCSD wrestling team. 

There were dozens of delectable blueberry dishes submitted, both savory and sweet, but a few stood out to the twelve judges as blue-ribbon worthy. After an hour of tasting, the judges made their decisions.
